		<description>ANOTHER PAINTING
Another Painting is a
score for site-specific installations to be interpreted in relation to the size
and quality of the room in which they are enacted. At any new venue different artifacts
are uniquely arranged according to the score. Thus, any new iteration of Another Painting diffracts all its
previous enactments in an on-going reconfiguration of the score’s identity.


Another Painting
(0) was produced at Birmingham School of Art in October 2015. It existed
for few days and was never exhibited to the public. So far, its score has been
re-enacted twice, both times at NEU NOW
2016. &#38;nbsp;Another
Painting (1) has lasted for the whole time of the festival (14-18/09/16)
while Another Painting (2) was
produced via a live performance and lasted for one evening only (17/09/16).

Here painting is reconceptualised as an artwork which can be faced all at once. This deconstruction of the discipline - in which relevance is given to the specific phenomenology of paintings’ encounters rather than to its traditional means of production - is primarily used to paint.

I will present on the applicability of the paradigm of diffraction in the arts at CreativeMornings Turin on 20/04, at Aalto University, Helsinki on 27/04 and at SAR International Conference on Artistic Research, Helsinki on 29/04.

Painting (5) will be exhibited at Nottingham Castle Open from 20th October 2016 to 8th January 2017.

2016 _ JULY
Another Painting will be reenacted for the
first time at NEU NOW art festival, Westergasfabriek, Amsterdam. This
site-specific painting will last for the time of the exhibition only, 14-18
September. 2015 _ AUGUST
Three paintings from the series photos for screens will be exhibited at Sluice 2015 by Interview Room 11.&#38;nbsp;16-18 October, Oxo Tower, London.

In my art practice, the mainstream image of painting is
challenged. I use the label ‘painting’ to call what in fact are experimentations
with materials and techniques that often derive from other disciplines, namely,
photography, installation, printmaking, textiles, video, etc. This is not to
dilute the concept of ‘painting’. On the contrary, these operations are meant
to give relevance to what of painting matters to me the most. More than the
sensuousness of its traditional materials and techniques, what exactly hooks me
on painting has to do with the possibility of encountering an artwork ‘all at
once’. To embrace the whole of its presence and composition in a moment, a
moment which might stretch from few seconds to several minutes, but which does
not articulate in steps and does not lead to conclusions. Hence, painting for
me is not a thing that is crafted in some specific way, but a spectacle that is
riveting even if it does not unfold. To me ‘painting’ means a visual event
where stillness and intensity coincide.&#38;nbsp;
